  De wereld ligt in puin – waarom nog een passie?

  Als de wereld in puin ligt wat betekent de muziek van een 17e- eeuwse componist dan nog? Dat is de centrale vraag in Utopia :: 47 – a very last Passion, van de Vlaamse componist en saxofonist Eric Sleichim.
  Deze opera/performance is een tweedelige passie waarin een verband gelegd wordt tussen het laatste jaar van de Dertigjarige Oorlog, 1647, en het laatste jaar van een toekomstige Dertigjarige Oorlog, 2047.
  De schoonheid van de geestelijke muziek, zoals Heinrich Schütz die componeerde tijdens de Dertigjarige Oorlog, was een ultiem teken van hoop op een betere wereld. Maar zouden wij in onze ultrapostmoderne tijd nog gevoelig zijn voor een dergelijk ethisch appél? Wat voor passie kunnen wij in 2047 beleven?

  If the world is in ruins, what can the music of a 17th century composer do? That is the central question in Utopia :: 47 – a very last Passion, by Flemish composer and saxophonist Eric Sleichim.
  The opera/performance is a two part Passion, in which the last year of the Thirty Years’ War, 1647, is connected with the last year of a future Thirty Years’ War, 2047.
  For centuries the beauty of spiritual music, as composed by Heinrich Schütz during the Thirty Years’ War was an ultimate harbinger of a better world. But, would we still be receptive to such an ethical appeal in these ultra-postmodern times? What passion would we profess in 2047?
