4'33 is a contemporary grand café on the ground floor of the Muziekgebouw with a unique view over ’t IJ. An inspiring and lively meeting place for concertgoers, businesspeople, local residents and musicians. You are welcome for a good cup of coffee (and the newspaper at the large reading table), a healthy lunch, or a high tea with delicious sweet bites from Dudok Patisserie.

The grand café takes its name from the 1952 composition 4’33” by American composer John Cage. A work of 4 minutes and 33 seconds of pure silence. Only accidental ambient noise can be heard. Just as this piece of music never sounds the same, it is the changing elements – the concerts, the food, the weather and you – that make a visit to 4'33 grand café unique every time.
