Moor Mother

Als strijder tegen onrecht richt Camae Ayewa aka Moor Mother zich op allerlei kunstvormen, van video-installatie tot elektronische muziek. Op haar recente album Black Encyclopedia of the Air geeft Moor Mother ruimte aan jonge helden van de alternatieve hiphop en r&b, onder wie Pink Siifu en Orion Sun. Daarnaast haalt ze inspiratie uit de avontuurlijke jazz van Sun Ra en Alice en John Coltrane. Ze werkt samen met de jazzmusici van Irreversible Entanglements (20 juni in BIMHUIS) en speelde met Art Ensemble of Chicago.

Moor Mother verspreidt haar boodschap door middel van poëzie, rap en spoken word. Al improviserend speelt zij in op de actualiteit en haar omgeving, vanuit haar eigen perspectief op de geschiedenis. Daarbij begeleidt zij zichzelf met beats, samples en synthesizers.

As a fighter against injustice, Camae Ayewa aka Moor Mother uses various art forms, including video installation and electronic music. On her recent album Black Encyclopedia of the Air, Moor Mother welcomes young heroes of alternative hip-hop and R&B such as Pink Siifu and Orion Sun. She also takes inspiration from the adventurous jazz of Sun Ra and Alice and John Coltrane. She collaborates with the jazz musicians of Irreversible Entanglements (June 20 in BIMHUIS) and played with Art Ensemble of Chicago.

Moor Mother spreads her message by means of poetry, rap and spoken word. Through improvisation, she responds to current affairs and her surroundings from her own perspective on history, accompanying herself with beats, samples and synthesizers.
