The Rest is Noise slaat de handen ineen met muzikantencollectief DNK-Amsterdam voor een avond rondom Tombstones van de Amerikaanse componist Michael Pisaro tijdens DNK DAYS. Tombstones, een liedcyclus gebaseerd op miniscule fragmenten van bekende popsongs ging in 2012 in première met de veelgeprezen zangeres Julia Holter. Deze avond presenteert het DNK-ensemble samen met het Berlijnse ensemble Konzert Minimal een vernieuwde versie van het stuk.
Michael Pisaro is een componist en gitarist uit Los Angeles waar hij hoofd van de afdeling compositie is aan de befaamde CalArts school. Hij maakt onderdeel uit van het Wandelweiser collectief, een groep internationale componisten die vooral werken met stilte en en de muzikale erfenis van John Cage. Pisaro schreef meer dan 80 werken die wereldwijd door grote en kleine ensembles uitgevoerd worden. Als gitarist bracht hij albums uit met onder meer Gramham Lambkin, Keith Rowe en Christian Wolff.
Konzert Minimal
KM is een ensemble uit Berlijn bestaande uit componisten, improvisatoren en instrumentalisten die zich gespecialiseerd hebben in het spelen van Wandelweiser composities en andere experimentele, open partituren van componisten zoals Antoine Beuger, Michael Pisaro, Radu Malfatti, Peter Ablinger, en Christian Wolff. Zij spelen zowel in kleine zalen in Berlijn als op grote festivals wereldwijd.
DNK-Amsterdam
DNK-Amsterdam organiseert al ruim twaalf jaar concerten met experimentele, gedurfde, maar veelal wonderschone muziek in onder andere het Muziekgebouw, OT301, SMART Project Space en Broedplaats Lely in samenwerking met kunst instituut De Appel. Ook spelen zij als ensemble wereldwijd concerten met eigen werk en experimentele composities van hedendaagse en twintigste eeuwse componisten.
Met DNK Days 2018 presenteert de groep een zes maanden durend programma met vernieuwende muziek van internationale musici, componisten, kunstenaars, en filosofen verspreid over verschillende zalen in Amsterdam.

The Rest Is Noise teams up with musicians collective DNK-Amsterdam for a night focused on Tombstones by New York composer Michael Pisaro. This intimate, song cycle, based on tiny fragments of famous pop songs, premiered in 2012 with the renowned singer Julia Holter. This night the DNK-ensemble, together with renowned Berlin ensembe: Konzert Minimal, plays their own arrangement of this special and flexible piece.
Michael Pisaro is a guitar player and composer from New York. He’s a part of the Wandelweiser collective, an internation group of composers that often work with silence and minimalism. Pisaro wrote over 80 pieces. As a guitar player, he has played works of John Cage, Christian Wolff and others.
Konzert Minimal
Ensemble Konzert Minimal focuses on the music of the Wandelweiser collective and composers who share similar aesthetics and interests in the organisation of sound and silence as well as extending beyond conventional confinements and traditional hierarchy. As an ensemble of Berlin-based musicians, Konzert Minimal draws upon diverse yet focused collective experiences of its members, who come from various backgrounds of music; modern classical music, experimental and improvised music, sound art, conceptual performance and composition.
DNK-Amsterdam
DNK-Amsterdam has been organising concerts of sound art and experimental - often minimal - music in the Muziekgebouw, OT301, SMART Project Space and other venues in Amsterdam for over seven years. With DNK Days 2018, the group presents a six months programme with innovative musicians, spread across different venues in Amsterdam.
