Goat (JP)

Hoewel naamgenoten, moet de vermaarde percussiegroep Goat uit Osaka (Japan) niet verward worden met de Zweedse avant-popgroep GOAT. De Japanse band Goat waar het hier om gaat, houdt zich sinds een wijziging in de line-up in 2017 vooral bezig met het componeren van repetitieve en complexe ritmische stukken. Hun typische stijl – het dempen van de melodische instrumenten om de beat naar voren te laten komen, en het frequente gebruik van harmonieen buiten het 12-toons register - werkt ontzettend hypnotiserend. Voor fans van minimal music en percussie een echte aanrader.

Hailing from Osaka, the heavy percussive formation Goat should not be confused with their Swedish avant-pop namesakes in disguise. After going through a reshape early 2017 with a new lineup, Goat have moved on to build compositions that explore rhythmic aspect even further, centering on intertwining patterns of repetitive rhythms. Their signature style – muting the melodic instruments to reinforce the beat and making frequent use of harmonics played outside the twelve-tone – is dexterously hypnotic.
