Kurt Elling

Met een Grammy en vele andere prijzen op zijn naam behoort Kurt Elling tot de grote jazzvocalisten van onze tijd. De Amerikaanse zanger laat alle vooroordelen over kerst als sneeuw voor het haardvuur verdwijnen; zijn kerstbeleving draait om universele thema’s als hoop, licht, verwondering en mysterie. Daarbij pakt hij regelmatig uit met verrassende variaties op herkenbare melodieën, en briljante improvisaties.

Kurt Ellings kerstalbum The Beautiful Day werd laaiend enthousiast ontvangen. ‘Vlekkeloos, subtiel en prachtig vormgegeven’, oordeelde The Guardian in een vijfsterrenrecensie. Kurt Elling wordt geprezen om zijn virtuositeit, zijn scherpzinnige teksten op bestaande jazzsolo’s en zijn omarming van poëzie. Voor de tweede keer staat hij in het Muziekgebouw, in samenwerking met het Bimhuis waar hij al sinds 2002 optreedt.

Kurt Elling is being praised for his virtuosity, his edgy lyrics to existing jazz solos, and for incorporating poetry in his music. For the second time he will appear at Muziekgebouw, in corporation with Bimhuis where he has been performing since 2002.
