An effervescent overture, Czech folk music and a piano quartet for orchestra

The VU Orchestra takes you on a vibrant concert with the theme of "stories and innovation". Conducted by Arjan Tien, the orchestra opens with the vibrant Candide Overture: originally a 1758 book by Voltaire. The orchestra plays the overture to the musical. This is followed by De Houtduif by Dvořák. This tragic story is based on poems and Czech folk music.

After intermission, the concert continues with Brahms' Piano Quartet in G minor in Schoenberg's innovative orchestration. This orchestration was premiered in 1937. Originally, the piano quartet was written around 1858 by Brahms. A beautiful ending to an evening of contrasting and surprising stories, which the passionate students of the VU Orchestra wrote their own versions of.
