Lezing over de microtonale pionier Julián Carrillo

Mexican-Dutch composer Juan Felipe Waller will give a lecture on the unique musical world of Mexican composer and microtonal pioneer Julián Carrillo. In the 1950s, Carillo developed a 96-tone piano that inspired many composers to write microtonal music. Waller composed his work Lhorong for Carrillo piano and Fokker organ, in which he explored the similarities between the instruments and in which he combined his Mexican and Dutch roots.

Julián Carrillo (1875 – 1965) divided the octave into 96 small steps, creating the Sonido-trece system, which introduced more tones than the conventional twelve-tone system. His groundbreaking work was globally recognized, including a nomination for the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1950.
