UvA Orchestra J.Pzn Sweelinck + Thomas Prechal

An evening of contrasts: from the sharp energy of Bacewicz’s Ouverture to Martinů’s vibrant and lyrical First Cello Concerto. After the intermission, the programme embraces full-blown romance with Bruckner’s Fourth Symphony. Together with conductor Jurjen Hempel and the young, virtuoso cellist Thomas Prechal, the Sweelinck orchestra will showcase just how multi-faceted a single evening of classical music can be. 
 
The Sweelinck Orchestra consists of around seventy students who come together every Thursday evening to rehearse and make music. From tours abroad to performing in major halls: they tackle it all, with a touch of student flair. Prepare to be delighted by an ambitious repertoire, an inspired conductor, a standout soloist, and an ensemble that clearly loves to perform.
