Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ is looking for an

Artistic Leader (f/m/x)

36 hours per week

Building on our adventurous programming profile with a focus on contemporary music, we aspire to make the Muziekgebouw an even more vibrant place for innovation in music culture: for today’s audiences, music and makers. With (international) acclaim, but above all of and for the city. A place where talent can thrive, with room for a wide variety of music and audiences.

About the position
To give shape to our ambitious vision, we are looking for an Artistic Leader. In this role, you will develop the artistic vision and strategy of the Muziekgebouw together with the members of the programming team. You will be responsible for implementing the artistic policy and translating it into annual plans and funding applications. You will be programming a significant part of the concerts and festivals yourself.

You will safeguard the quality and objectives of the Muziekgebouw’s programming and realize projects that attract new audiences to the Muziekgebouw, also from parts of the city that we are currently not reaching as effectively (such as Amsterdam Noord, Zuid-Oost and Nieuw-West). With your strong vision for music, you know how to connect the Muziekgebouw with the city and the international network.

What we expect
•  You work from a vision of contemporary and adventurous music that is distinctively creative and socially engaged;
•  You know what it is like to work within a cultural venue as a programmer/artistic director with final responsibility;
•  You have a big heart for the arts and culture sector and speak the language of musicians and creators
•  You have a relevant, cross-genre network, both nationally and internationally;
•  You know how to optimally fine-tune our programming to reach a large and diverse audience;
•  You combine your artistic and content vision with business acumen;
•  You have an excellent feel for the city of Amsterdam in all its diversity;
•  You are open, proactive, have guts and perseverance;
•  As a strong connector, you know how to build inspiring partnerships, both internally and externally;
•  With a keen eye for diversity and inclusion, you strengthen our organization from that perspective.

About your position in the organization
In this position, as an artistic inspiration, you will be given all the space to develop the programming in line with our ambitions and artistic profile. You are accountable to the executive director. You are the chair and driving force of the programming team and in that role you are responsible for the programming and the programming budget. In consultation with the executive director, you manage the programmers. You are part of the management team of the Muziekgebouw.

What we offer you
•  A position with impact in which you provide space for artistic polyphony. You really make the difference in which you sustainably lift the Muziekgebouw to a higher level in terms of music, audience, and makers.
•  A close-knit programme team and dedicated colleagues with whom it is a pleasure to work.
•  Working in the architecturally stunning Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ, with the most flexible and quietest concert hall in Europe.
•  Good fringe benefits with flexible working hours, development and training opportunities, and the opportunity to visit concerts both within the Muziekgebouw and elsewhere.
•  A salary in accordance with salary scale 9 of the collective bargaining agreement for venues in the Netherlands (CAO Nederlandse Podia, www.caonederlandsepodia.nl). With an excellent pension scheme, holiday allowance, and end-of-year bonus.
