Not Another Diva..

Bestaat er ook een ander soort diva, een die de glitter en de glamour ontstegen is? Regisseur Faustin Linyekula en de Zuid-Afrikaanse zangeres en actrice Hlengiwe Lushaba willen zo’n soort diva laten zien, een die ver verwijderd is van de stereotypen – een diva die in achtertuinen optreedt, tussen de mensen staat en het contact met de dagelijkse realiteit nooit heeft verloren.

Het idee ontstond toen Lushaba haar muziek kwam opnemen in Linyekula’s Studios Kabako in Kisangani. De samenwerking mondde uit in deze voorstelling, waarin ook de Congolese percussioniste Huguette Tolinga en danseres Johanna Tshabalala te zien zijn. Not Another Diva ... is een meeslepend theaterconcert en een ode aan de kracht van de vrouw.

Does there exist a different kind of diva, one that is beyond the gloss and the glamour? Director Faustin Linyekula and South African singer and actress Hlengiwe Lushaba want to show a different kind of diva, far removed from stereotypes – a diva who performs in back gardens, mingles with normal people, and has never lost touch with daily reality.

The idea arose when Lushaba was recording her music at Linyekula’s Studios Kabako in Kisangani. This performance is the result of their collaboration, which also includes Congolese percussionist Huguette Tolinga and dancer Johanna Tshabalala. Not Another Diva ... is a compelling theatre concert and an ode to the power of woman.
