Tashi Wada Group ft. Julia Holter & Corey Fogel

Voor fans van de bejubelde FRKWY-serie van het RVNG Intl. label uit New York is Tashi Wada geen onbekende; de componist uit Los Angeles bracht er onlangs zijn album Nue uit. In Amsterdam speelt Wada materiaal van die plaat, samen met een nieuwe band waar ook Julia Holter en percussionist Corey Fogel onderdeel van zijn. ‘Nue’ betekent in het Frans zowel ‘ongecompliceerd’ als ‘ruw’, en die tegenstelling zit ook in Wada’s muziek. Zelf noemt hij het project "een visie, een eindeloze droomnacht en een persoonlijk verhaal vol vreugde en demonen."

Voor Julia Holter hebben we een speciale plek in ons hart. De uit Los Angeles afkomstige componist en performer speelde op de allereerste editie van The Rest Is Noise in 2012 en sindsdien nam haar carrière een indrukwekkende vlucht. Voor gerenommeerde labels als Domino, RVNG Intl. en Leaving Record produceerde ze een veelzijdig oeuvre en als livemuzikant behoort ze tot de wereldtop.

Los Angeles-based composer Tashi Wada, who’s name might ring a bell for those who follow the mighty RVNG Intl. record label from New York, will be performing his album Nue with a new band, featuring Julia Holter and percussionist Corey Fogel. In French, ‘‘nue’’ means naked - without complexity, unprotected and exposed, but also crude and essential. This duality underlies Wada’s music. Released as part of RVNG Intl.'s FRKWY series, this project ranges from minimalist bagpipe to off-world vocals, creating, according to Wada's words, "a vision, an endless dream night and a personal story full of joys and demons."

Julia Holter is an artist dear to our hearts. The LA-based composer, performer and recording artist played the very first edition of The Rest Is Noise in 2012, spinning into a prosperous future ever since. She released critically acclaimed albums for labels like Domino, RVNG Intl. and Leaving Records, and on stage her transcendent pop music sounds both infectiously calm and ecstatic.
