2025 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Pierre Boulez. This French composer and conductor remains, for many, the groundbreaking champion of abstract, almost mathematical music.
Yet this great innovator also wrote a large number of sensual works that are characterized by their use of colour and atmosphere, music more akin to that of Debussy. In 2025, the Muziekgebouw celebrates the 100th anniversary of the birth of Boulez with a double portrait that shows the two faces of this French post-war composer extraordinaire.
