Two masterful symphonies

The enthusiasm of the young musicians of the Noordhollands Jeugdorkest and the passion with which they play, make this concert an impressive and often moving experience. During this concert, two masterpieces are on the program: Dmitri Shostakovich's First Symphony and Sergei Rachmaninov's Second Symphony. 

Dmitri Shostakovich's First Symphony is a breathtaking piece of work that the composer wrote when he was only 19 years old as his graduation piece. This energetic piece of music full of contrasts is often seen as Shostakovich's breakthrough to the international stage. After the break, Sergei Rachmaninov's expressive and passionate Second Symphony will be played. The work is considered one of the highlights of the late Romantic repertoire. Emotion, power, and beauty come together in this unforgettable afternoon.
