FIBER X The Rest is Noise 2024

FIBER X The Rest Is Noise leidt het nieuwe jaar in met audiovisuele performances die de zintuigen op scherp zetten. Acts uit Berlijn en Rotterdam combineren visuals, inheemse instrumenten, sculpturen en kostuumontwerp in theatrale presentaties. Thema’s als queerness, kolonialisme, hoop en zelfexpressie komen aan bod. Vanavond staat het niet dansen centraal, maar de invloed en kracht van rave- en technocultuur zijn onmiskenbaar aanwezig. 

Het Rotterdamse duo Animistic Beliefs en mediakunstenaar Jeisson Drenth presenteren de wereldpremière van Thức Tỉnh (Ontwaak). Vanuit een ruimtelijke opstelling waarin projecties een grote rol spelen reflecteert het duo op koloniaal geweld met gebruik van elektronische en traditionele akoestische instrumenten én schaduwpoppenspel.De Berlijnse dj en producer CEM (Cem Duran) werkt voor zijn allereerste live performance samen met licht- en mediakunstenaar Theresa Baumgartner en kunstenaar Mauro Ventura. Zijn voorstelling GEZEGEN is een zoektocht naar innerlijke werelden en vindt momenten van troost in de schoonheid van het bekende. CEMs abstracte soundscapes bevatten elementen die verwijzen naar de soefi-achtergrond van zijn familie.

Slimfit is een queer Chinese, Surinaamse en Nederlandse multidisciplinaire artiest gevestigd in Amsterdam. In hun deejay-sets voegt Slimfit verschillende genres samen tot een collage van resonerende en energieke geluiden.

FIBER x The Rest Is Noise kicks off the new year with immersive audiovisual performances. This year acts from Berlin and Rotterdam combine light scenography, the use of indigenous instruments, sculptures, and costume design within theatrical presentations. Themes of queerness, colonialism, hope and self-expression are explored. The influence and power of rave and techno culture are undeniable. Although tonight the focus is not on dancing, but on the sonic experiment, the visual element and the social engagement where techno culture came from.

Rotterdam-based duo Animistic Beliefs and artist Jeisson Drenth present the world premiere of Thức Tỉnh (Awaken). Using electronic and traditional acoustic instruments as well as shadow puppetry, the duo reflects on colonial violence from within a spatial setup in which projections play a major role. Berlin-based DJ and producer CEM (Cem Duran) collaborates with light and media artist Theresa Baumgartner and artist Mauro Ventura for his first-ever live performance. His performance GEZEGEN is a search for inner worlds and finds moments of solace in the beauty of the familiar. CEM's abstract soundscapes contain elements that reference his family's Sufi background.

Slimfit is a queer Chinese, Surinamese and Dutch multidisciplinary artist based in Amsterdam. In their deejay-sets they seam differing genres together into a collage of resonating and energetic sounds.
