Alexander Melnikov piano

From harpsichord to concert grand piano

Alexander Melnikov is as whimsical as he is a genius. Not only does he have an immensely wide repertoire, he also plays many kinds of pianos. For his internationally acclaimed programme Many Pianos, he plays no less than four historical keyboard instruments, alongside the Steinway concert grand piano. With fantasies from Bach, via Mozart, Chopin and Skrjabin to Schnittke, Melnikov is your guide on a delightful journey of discovery through the minds of these composers. At the same time, he highlights the development from the fortepiano to the modern concert grand piano.

Alexander Melnikov stands out from many other pianists in that both the historical fortepiano and the modern concert grand have no secrets for him. To best showcase the way various composers used the instrument of their time, Melnikov chose the free form of fantasy. Imagine yourself in the living room of composers from three different centuries who explore their instrument while improvising.
