One of the world’s most exquisite Lieder singers

At last, Lieder singer Mark Padmore makes his debut in the Great Singers series. For a long time, lovers of Lieder have been looking forward to the arrival of the British tenor, who became especially well-known in the Netherlands for his dream part in the St Matthew Passion as the Evangelist. Together with pianist Till Fellner, who previously excelled in a solo recital in the Muziekgebouw, he performs lesser-known but oh-so-beautiful songs by Schubert and Schumann.

Mark Padmore’s path is perhaps atypical of major Lieder singers. He did not grow up in the world of opera, but impressed from the outset in the role of Evangelist in Bach’s great passions. A role in which text comprehension and expression on the square millimetre are of paramount importance. Padmore’s diction and text comprehension are unrivalled. It earned him a residency with the Berlin Philharmonic and his own series at Wigmore Hall. He has become one of the most exquisite Lieder singers in the world.
