Religious music imbued with profound emotion, performed by Pärt’s favourite choir

These are turbulent times. Complex, intricate, and fraught with tension. Which is why many people look for solace. And often find it in the music of Arvo Pärt. His music is a quest for simplicity: ‘I have discovered that it is enough when a single note is beautifully played. Simplicity. The truth is simple and the path to it is straight.’ From a place of directness and simplicity, he composed his spiritual Passio.

It is one of the best-loved works by the Estonian composer, who will celebrate his 90th birthday in 2025. Deeply felt, religious music. Stripped down and condensed, with an ensemble of five instruments, six soloists, and a choir. Rumour has it that Vox Clamantis is Pärt’s favourite choir. The composer and choir have worked together for many years. The choir’s expertise in Gregorian chant also helps to bring out the medieval vibes in Pärt’s music.
