Discover exceptional talent and magnificent music

Violinist Birthe Blom, pianist Mirsa Adami and writer/storyteller Ernestine Brikkenaar van Dijk present a programme on the extraordinary life of Paul Godwin (1902 - 1982) and his violin. Godwin was a celebrated violinist in pre-war Berlin, but fled from the Nazis in 1933. He ended up in the Netherlands, in the company of his treasured Stradivarius.

Ernestine Brikkenaar van Dijk wrote the book Maestro about Godwin's life, the basis for this performance. Birthe Blom and Mirsa Adami play compositions by Bloch, Kreisler, Smetana, Elgar and Poulenc, among others, Ernestine narrates. Also on the programme are pieces by Godwin's famous salon orchestra, with which he sold millions of gramophone records.

Birthe Blom plays on the Paul Godwin Stradivarius, which she has on loan from the Musical Instrument Fund.
