Sitting still won’t be an option tonight. The eight-member Saravá Samba Project is transforming the Terrace of the Muziekgebouw into a Brazilian dance floor. Samba is a centuries-old cultural heritage with deep roots – a fusion of African rites and hymns with Brazil’s indigenous folk traditions. The audience will form a traditional roda de samba (‘samba circle’), with the musicians in the middle. Lose yourself in an electrifying spectacle of layered rhythms.
The Saravá Samba Project is an initiative by percussionists Jeroen Hensel and Steven Brezet. The two musicians met during their time in Brazil, where they delved into the rich tradition of samba. Upon returning to the Netherlands, they decided to combine their passion and knowledge and founded Saravá Samba Project together. Driven by their shared love of Brazilian musical culture, they are dedicated to bringing samba in its most authentic form to stages across the Netherlands.
Outdoor concert
This Terrace Concert is an outdoor event. The sun can be intense and the wind can be quite strong near the water, so come prepared. In the event of unfavourable weather conditions, the performance will be held indoors in the Entrance Hall, which overlooks the river IJ.
