A peek into the versatility of the 31-tone organ

Organist Una Cintiņa, originally from Latvia, explores surprising paths on the Fokker organ with works that are important to her. She plays delightful English works by William Byrd in the pure meantone temperament. She presents the work of her compatriot Imants Zemzaris, a mix of contemporary minimalism, polyphony and romantic lyricism. And she honours the Dutch composer and organist Albert de Klerk, who knew the Fokker organ well. A wonderful peek into the versatility of this organ.

Una Cintiņa grew up in Latvia, where she studied church music, conducting and organ, among other subjects. In 2007, she came to the Netherlands where she continued her studies at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. She is now musical director of the Roman Catholic parish HH Matthias-Laurentius in Alkmaar and in that capacity frequently plays the organ. She promotes Latvian organ and choral music, with a particular focus on contemporary music.
