Fuensanta Méndez is without doubt one of the most fascinating musicians in the Dutch jazz world. The career of the young Mexican singer, bassist, and composer skyrocketed after winning first prize at the Prinses Christina Jazz Concours. She graced the stage of the North Sea Jazz Festival and enjoyed a residency at the Bimhuis. This IJ-Salon marks her first collaboration with musicians from the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.

‘I love your strings. Can we please do something with strings? Do they improvise?’ Fuensanta immediately reacted with great enthusiasm when Michael Gieler, artistic director of the IJ-Salon, called her. This promises to be a thrilling encounter between the musicians of the Concertgebouw Orchestra and Fuensanta Méndez in a relatively uncharted musical territory.
