Discover the music of the last modernist still alive

The music of the German composer Helmut Lachenmann takes centre stage in the evening concert of the Thursday Evening Series on 20 February. Experimental and mysterious music of a true sound wizard. Join us for a public rehearsal and discover this extraordinary soundscape. Clarinettist Mark Simpson, cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras and pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard are rehearsing the evening’s centrepiece, Allegro Sostenuto, alongside their solo pieces.

Helmut Lachenmann (1935) studied in Stuttgart and Venice, under the guidance of Luigi Nono and others. His works premiered at prestigious festivals, such as the Venice Biennale (1962). He taught in Hanover, Stuttgart and Harvard and received important prizes, including the Siemens Music Prize (1997).

TIP: Attend the evening concert on Thursday 20 February at 8:15 p.m.
