Masterclass trumpet

During her career, Kaija Saariaho has worked with several important musicians, conductors and directors. They were essential in the development and performance of her oeuvre. During the Saariaho Festival, four masterclasses will highlight these special relationships.

Saariaho has been working with jazz trumpeter Verneri Pohjola since the beginning of 2022. Their collaboration resulted in the trumpet concerto HUSH, which would also become her last work. The concert can be seen as a journey through her life. In this masterclass, Verneri Pohjola shares his knowledge and skills with young and upcoming conservatory students. Experience it up close.

TIPS:
During the concert on Thursday 13 March at 8:15 PM, Verneri Pohjola will perform Saariaho's trumpet concerto HUSH. On Sunday 16 March at 3:00 PM in the Bimhuis, Verneri Pohjola and percussionist Mika Kallio will play the soundtrack to Perttu Saksa's nature documentary Animal Image.
