Fifty for the Future

Het Kronos Quartet, al ruim veertig jaar aan de top, is een week lang artist in residence tijdens het festival met zijn project Kronos’ Fifty for the Future. Een van de onderdelen is dit concert in het Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ. Het kwartet speelt nieuwe, avontuurlijke composities uit het Kronos’ Fifty for the Future-repertoire: vijftig opdrachten die het Kronos Quartet over een periode van vijf jaar verstrekt aan componisten – 25 vrouwen en 25 mannen – van over de hele wereld.

Zoals Merlijn Twaalfhoven, van wie het kwartet een wereldpremière speelt. Ook speelt het kwartet composities van onder anderen Donnacha Dennehy, Sahba Aminikia en Laurie Anderson. En als gelegenheidsoctet met het Nederlandse Ragazze Quartet de wereldpremière van een nieuw werk van Yannis Kyriakides.

The Kronos Quartet have been at the very top for more than forty years. At the Holland Festival, they will be artist in residence for a week with their Kronos’ Fifty for the Future project. As part of their residency the quartet will give a concert at the Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ, featuring a selection of new, adventurous pieces from their Kronos’ Fifty for the Future repertoire, which comprises new works commissioned by the Kronos Performing Arts Associating to a range of composers – 25 women and 25 men – from all over the world over a period of five years, including Merlijn Twaalfhoven.

In addition, they will perform the world premiere of a new work by Yannis Kyriakides together with the Dutch Ragazze Quartet, as well as pieces by Donnacha Dennehy, Sahba Aminikia and Laurie Anderson.
