Exclusive glimpse into international Ud Festival

In November 2026, the Ud Festival will once again shine the spotlight on the oud, the versatile Arabic lute. With its rich sound and countless possibilities, the oud has influenced musical traditions across the globe and the instrument serves today as a catalyst for experimentation among musicians from diverse cultures. During this terrace concert, the Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra will offer a preview of the festival by featuring oud player Nikos Avgoustidis, clarinetist Ghaeth Almagooth, and percussionist Ruven Ruppik.

The oud player and multi-instrumentalist Nikos Avgoustidid is especially interested in Arabic, Turkish, and Greek folk music. With his expressive playing, he interprets the emotional and melodic richness of the maqam tradition. Ghaeth Almaghoot is a Syrian-Dutch clarinetist, composer, and improviser who continued building his musical career in the Netherlands after fleeing Syria in 2015. His music connects Middle Eastern traditions with influences from the Balkans and jazz. With a warm, expressive tone and a strong focus on improvisation, he creates a unique musical story in every performance. Ruven Ruppik is a percussionist who plays a variety of musical styles, ranging from flamenco to Balkan music, as well as Arabic and North Indian classical music.

The Oud Festival will take place from 3–21 November 2026 at various venues across the country. The final of the accompanying Oud Competition for emerging talent will be held at the Muziekgebouw on 21 November.

Outdoor concert
This Terrace Concert is an outdoor event. The sun can be intense and the wind can be quite strong near the water, so come prepared. In the event of unfavourable weather conditions, the performance will be held indoors in the Entrance Hall, which overlooks the river IJ.
