Echoes of Nothing
Monthly fringe programme in collaboration with Conservatorium van Amsterdam
Inspired by the quote ‘Every something is an echo of nothing’ by composer John Cage, three students from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam (Dániel Bolba, Lisa Schreiber and Sean Haid) are curating their own concert series.
Every month there are special out-of-the-box mini concerts in the Entrance Hall of the Music Building and 4'33 grand café, before and/or after the concert in the Main Hall. The mini concerts reflect on concerts from the programming in the Grote Zaal and offer a new perspective on the concert experience.
The Portuguese-Hungarian percussionist Dániel Bolba completed his studies at the Amsterdam Conservatory and is currently completing a double master's degree in Percussion and Live Electronics under the guidance of Arnold Marinissen, Xi Zhang and Jos Zwaanenburg. He collaborated with musicians such as Arnold Marinissen, Arno Bornkamp and Dominique Vleeshouwers. Bolba teaches in the Reach Out program of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, is a programmer at Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ as part of the Echoes of Nothing project, and has collaborated with ensembles such as AskoISchönberg, Remix Ensemble, Ensemble Intercontinental Competition and Ensemble Modern Academy. He is the winner of several international competitions, including the Tomarimbando Competition, Beira Interior International Percussion Competition and the Portuguese Prize for Young Musicians in 2023.
“Animated by secret power,” is how Markus Stockhausen described the playing of the young German saxophonist Lisa Schreiber (2000). Lisa, who grew up in the Black Forest, has been studying at the Amsterdam Conservatory since 2018 with the renowned Dutch saxophonist Arno Bornkamp. She won a 3rd prize in the Princess Christina Competition and was a laureate of Classic Young Masters. With her ensemble Dokwerk Saxophone Quartet she won the first prize at the Vítor Santos International Competition in Portugal. In 2023, the saxophone quartet recorded their debut CD Intersections, containing exclusively contemporary compositions. As a soloist and chamber musician of, among others, the young NBE, Lisa performs in renowned halls such as the Concertgebouw, De Doelen and Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ.
