SoundLAB & podcast Everything OK?!

Create a soundtrack with your class for your own podcast

In Everything OK?! (in Dutch: Alles Goed?!), young people from Amsterdam share their own stories about real issues — from bullying and worrying to parents’ divorce. Together, they compose and record the soundtrack in the SoundLAB of Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ.

The project shows that everyone faces challenges, and that both talking and making music can help. Experiencing bullying, sleepless nights, or family struggles can deeply affect mental wellbeing — unless young people learn to share their burdens with others.

Everything OK?! lets you feel — your own emotions, those of others, and how music can support that process. In every episode, a student from one of Amsterdam’s seven districts tells a personal story, inspiring peers to see that it’s okay to be vulnerable.

Manar (12) lives between two cultures. Bullies forced her to choose: are you Moroccan or Dutch? She developed panic attacks and became afraid of school. By talking, she overcame her fears. Now she has a close group of friends who feel like family. “I’m both Moroccan and Dutch — no one can tell me otherwise.”

SoundLAB
As part of this program, the whole class visits the SoundLAB at Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ — a musical laboratory filled with more than 100 experimental instruments. Each instrument is easy to play and produces a unique sound. Using these instruments, the class creates a soundtrack for the student’s story. Working together, they learn how to translate emotions into music, even those they may not yet fully understand.

The combination of the soundtrack and the personal story results in a powerful and hopeful podcast episode. These episodes are published on Spotify, and you can see more about the process in a special episode of Studio Buurtbazen on AT5.

For whom
This program is designed for students in the upper grades of primary school and the lower grades of secondary school (ages 10–14).
