ENA ENA

ENA ENA speelt zich af in een nachtclub op het Griekse platteland. Niets is wat het lijkt. De ober beweegt opeens als een danseres, de beveiligingscamera lijkt bezeten door een zangstem. De band laat Griekse klassiekers uit de jaren zeventig tot negentig samenvloeien met elektronische en geïmproviseerde muziek. Stap voor stap wordt het publiek betrokken bij een onwerkelijk feest. 

ENA ENA is Grieks voor ‘een voor een’. De voorstelling roept de sfeer op van de ‘panegyris’, het Griekse volksfeest. De Griekse componist/theatermaker Thanasis Deligiannis liet zich inspireren door traditionele ‘klarina’-volksmuziek en hoe die in de jaren tachtig transformeerde van akoestisch naar elektrisch. Zijn voorstellingen hebben elementen van muziektheater en performance art en met zijn collectief I/O (met onder anderen toetsenist Kaja Draksler en violist George Dumitriu) verkent hij nieuwe technologieën en interdisciplinaire crossovers.

ENA ENA takes place in a Greek rural nightclub, where nothing is as it seems. The waiter suddenly moves like a female dancer. The security camera seems possessed by a singing voice. The band mixes Greek classics from the 1970s to 90s with electronic and improvised music. Step by step the audience becomes involved in this uncanny celebration.

ENA ENA is Greek for ‘one by one’. The performance recalls the atmosphere of the ‘panegyris’, the Greek folk feast. Greek composer and theatre maker Thanasis Deligiannis was inspired by the traditional ‘klarina’ folk music and its transformation from acoustic to electric in the 1980s. His performances contain elements of music theatre and performance art, whilst with his collective I/O (with, among others, keyboardist Kaja Draksler and violinist George Dumitriu) he explores new technologies and interdisciplinary crossovers.
