Irreversible Entanglements

Samen met BIMHUIS verwelkomen we het grensverleggende en genadeloze Irreversible Entanglements. Het avant-jazzcollectief kent vijf leden, wier artistieke visies alom geprezen zijn. “Luke Stewart, de hogepriester op bas; Aquiles Navarro, het elektrische universum in menselijke vorm op trompet; Keir Neuringer, de kosmoloog met sirene op sax; Tcheser Holmes, de griot en mythemaker op drums; en Camae Ayewa op vocalen, de ‘Moor Mother’ met een spirituele pen” (Alex Smith).

Irreversible Entanglements staat in het verlengde van de spirituele tradities van jazz uit de jaren vijftig – die van Charles Mingus, Alice Coltrane en Sun Ra. Het collectief mengt die invloeden met elektronica en futuristische poëzie. Een tocht door ’het postkoloniale puin’ (Smith). Muziek die snijdt en schraapt, en die tegelijkertijd iets nieuws laat opbloeien en aanwakkeren. Open the gates!

We’re thrilled to welcome Irreversible Entanglements, together with BIMHUIS. An uncompromising avant-jazz collective, made up of five individuals whose artistic visions have received wide acclaim. “Luke Stewart, the high priest on bass; Aquiles Navarro, the electric universe in human form on trumpet; Keir Neuringer, the cosmologist with the siren sound on sax; Tcheser Holmes, the griot, the myth-maker on drums; and Camae Ayewa, the Moor mother with an empyrean pen game” (Alex Smith).

Irreversible Entanglements channel the traditions of spiritual jazz from the 50’s – that of Charles Mingus, Alice Coltrane and Sun Ra. The band fuses the phantoms of their ancestors with electronics and futurist poetry. Walking through “the post-colonial debris that surrounds us.
