Scrol door een willekeurige tracklist over elektronische muziek, en heel vaak kom je dan een of meerdere nummers van Tangerine Dream tegen. De impact van hun muziek op de elektronische muziekscene is gigantisch en het is een eer om ze dit jaar te gast te hebben op Dekmantel Festival.
De Duitse supergroep wordt gerekend tot een van de belangrijkste krautrock bands allertijden en vierde vorig jaar hun 50-jarige jubileum. De band, opgericht door de inmiddels overleden Edgar Froese, was verantwoordelijk voor de creatie van nieuwe normen voor progressieve, drone-achtige, sexy stadiummuziek en zette een nieuwe standaard voor de Hollywood soundtracks van de jaren 80.
Tegenwoordig klinkt hun muziek in de meest gedurfde dj-sets, als hymnes. Dit jaar kun je ze live zien in het Muziekgebouw. Al is Froese jammergenoeg niet meer onder ons, the show must go on. Tangerine Dream bestaat uit Ulrich Schnauss, Thorsten Quaeschning, en de weduwe van Froese, Hoshiko Yamane.

Scroll through tracklists affiliated to electronic music, you’re bound to check off quite a few Tangerine Dream tracks. Their impact and importance to those in the electronic music world is unquestionable, and to have them play at this year’s Dekmantel Festival is one of the greatest honours to bestow us.
One of the most important krautrock acts of our time, the German supergroup celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2017. Originally formed in Berlin by the now deceased Edgar Froese, Tangerine Dream were responsible for setting new standards for prog, droney, sexy-stadium-space music - and pretty much set the template for 80s, Hollywood soundtracks.
Nowadays, their anthemic, moody-Moog-music can often be heard in the sets of the daring, and most eclectic of selectors, and at this year’s Dekmantel Festival, you can see the dream in real life. Although Froese is no longer with us, the show must go on, and Tangerine Dream are joined by Ulrich Schnauss, Thorsten Quaeschning, and Froese’s widow, Hoshiko Yamane.
