Celebrating the Amazon’s richness through upbeat rhythms

Aguas da Amazonia is an irresistible celebration of the Amazon rainforest’s richness. Minimalism legend Philip Glass composed this nine-part ballet in 1999 for a Brazilian ensemble, mixing local percussion sounds and upbeat rhythms into his iconic style. The DOMNIQ Group is the innovative music theatre company led by the acclaimed Dutch percussionist DOMNIQ (Dominique Vleeshouwers). The ensemble expands Aguas da Amazonia into a full-evening performance – a celebration of diversity, percussion and water.

In 2020, DOMNIQ became the first percussionist ever to receive the Nederlandse Muziekprijs (Dutch Music Award). In 2014, he won all prizes (jury, press, and audience) at the International TROMP Percussion Competition in Eindhoven. Driven by a desire to connect people through percussion, DOMNIQ frequently collaborates with creators across various disciplines. This exceptional new production of Aguas da Amazonia serves as a prelude to Philip Glass’s 90th birthday in January 2027.
