Middle East and Western worlds merge in thrilling improvisations

If the use of microtones is natural anywhere, it is in the Middle-East. Especially Persian music, rich in microtones, offers many possibilities and overlaps with the music for the 31-tone organ. Which is why organist Ere Lievonen is collaborating with Pouriya Jaberi and Seyed Ali Jaberi, who perform both traditional and modern folk and Sufi music. Both worlds merge in composed works and exciting improvisations.

Persian music is central to the works of Rasoul Yari, Javad Maroufi, and composer and tanbur player Sayed Ali Jaberi. The latter, who plays one of the most sacred instruments of the Persian world, has gained worldwide recognition for his interpretations of traditional Persian and Sufi music. He is accompanied by his brother, Pouriya Jaberi, a virtuoso on Persian percussion, who won prizes in international competitions at a young age and is now a highly sought-after musician in the Netherlands. The program also features music by Armenian composer Ardashes Agoshian, who draws from the rich musical traditions of his homeland.
