Prominent sarod player shares the stage with his wife and son

Ranajit Sengupta is one of the leading players of the Indian stringed instrument, the sarod. He made his mark in Hindustani classical music as a teenager. Today, his performances are a family affair; he shares the stage with his wife, vocalist Shirin Sengupta Nath, and their son Rajarshi, who plays the rare 19-string Indian classical mandolin.

Hindustani classical music is passed on in several ways, through musical language, aesthetics and interpretation, but often also through the family line. All these ways apply to the Senguptas. The deep-rooted connection they radiate during their performances is seldom seen outside of India. On stage, the three family members are accompanied by Kousik Banerjee on tabla.
