Historical performance practice at its most modern

Returning to the roots of Fokker’s 31-tone organ, this concert delves into Constantijn Huygens’ Pathodia sacra et profana. It was Huygens’ son, Christiaan, who invented the 31-tone equal-tempered organ. Laurens de Man, joined by baritone Ben Kazes and violinist Eva Saladin, brings the music of Huygens and his peers to life as it was meant to be heard, juxtaposing it with more contemporary pieces. Historically informed performance at its most modern.

Laurens de Man is the resident organist of the Fokker organ. Recipient of the 2024 Nederlandse Muziekprijs (Dutch Music Award), De Man is a specialist in historical tunings. As an organist, he is highly acclaimed for his ‘intelligent virtuosity and his personal, inventive use of colours’, according to the jury of the Netherlands’ highest award for music.
