A nightclub to get lost in 

Genevieve Murphy uses sound to move people in both a literal and figurative sense. Her work explores the boundaries of music, performance and the visual arts and is often witty, moving and confrontational at the same time. For this immersive experience, Murphy is collaborating closely with the experimental Swiss ensemble Hyper Duo. Together, they will transform the Muziekgebouw into a nightclub, and will let the audience wander through the building wearing headphones. Where is the sound coming from? How does the environment influence our perception? 
  
In the distance, the dull thud of a beat can be heard. But once inside the hall, nothing is as it seems: no DJ set, but a piano? Murphy plays a clever game with our expectations and perception, blurring the line between reality and imagination. Music from the speakers and headphones enters into a dialogue with live performances by Hyper Duo and Murphy herself. Where you are determines how you listen and what you hear. An intimate, alienating experience within an imaginative installation performance.
