Transformations as one great musical work of art

During this concert, the theme Metamorphosis (literally: transformation) is explored across various musical periods, from the Renaissance to Impressionism, and features a world premiere by the composer-in-residence, Amarante Nat. Through a pre-made lighting design and with hardly any interruption between the pieces, all the music is connected, and each composition ‘transforms’ into the next. The result is one great musical work of art.

As the audience enters the hall, Ligeti’s Poème symphonique is already in progress. One hundred metronomes take centre stage as musical instruments. Because each metronome has been wound slightly differently, no two stop at the same moment. What begins as a storm of sound slowly transforms into total silence as the metronomes stop ticking one by one.

Following the concert, there will be a Q&A with composer Amarante Nat in the foyer.
