From Bach to Pärt

Different composers, different worlds. Yet, it is precisely through contrast that cohesion emerges: difference breeds tension, and tension breeds energy. Music is the ultimate proof of this: harmony only arises when different, at times even opposing, sounds converge. 
 
The Nederlandse Bachvereniging’s brand-new artistic director, Johanna Soller, juxtaposes Baroque compositions by Bach and Buxtehude, about the struggle between good and evil, with Arvo Pärt’s modern masterpiece, Fratres. This work is a quintessential example of the beauty of contrast: the seemingly clashing C and C-sharp alternate here in a harmonious union. Together with a world-class cast of soloists, Johanna Soller celebrates the vibrant energy of opposites.
