Dynamic, dance-like and playful

Anyone who has heard Angela Hewitt perform at the Muziekgebouw, will immediately think: Bach! After all, she graced the stage here with his Goldberg Variations and the complete Das Wohltemperierte Klavier (The Well-Tempered Clavier). Her interpretations of Bach are acclaimed worldwide. Now, in a refreshing twist, she brings us the music of Chopin. Hewitt shines a light on the Polish genius through his folkloric mazurkas, his grand Fantasie, and his dramatic Scherzo No. 2.

‘The Canadian is on sparkling form, bringing to Scarlatti the same brilliance of articulation, singing line and wit that she lavishes on Bach’, wrote The Times. The pianist will open the concert with several sonatas by the Italian Baroque composer Domenico Scarlatti. It was in the strange, ‘distant’ land of Spain that his most original work was born. Hewitt’s playing is captivating and dynamic; this promises to be a dance-like and playful performance.
