Domenico Scarlatti’s keyboard sonatas

The younger Scarlatti was well-versed in the rules of the sonata, yet he took delight in elegantly bending them. He challenged the harpsichord to produce sounds it was never intended to make. In 2024, harpsichord master Francesco Corti scored a hit with his recording of Scarlatti’s sonatas. He is meeting the most adventurous of the Baroque giants in a niche of the keyboard repertoire, where the only law is that no laws apply.
