Support Red line

October 9, 2025

Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ supported the Red Line protest on October 5 in Amsterdam.
On this day the Muziekgebouw was illuminated in red. In doing so, we express our support for the Red Line protest and endorse the call on Dutch politicians to take more action to stop the genocide in Gaza.

Shared statement by cultural institutions on october 3rd 2025:

We, cultural institutions in Amsterdam, are also drawing a red line on October 5. Continuing to speak out against grave injustice is a fundamental principle of our democratic society. Under international law, all countries are obliged to help prevent or stop genocide and large-scale human rights violations. This includes the Netherlands.

As social and cultural institutions, we too refuse to look away. When fundamental rights are systematically violated and large-scale violence occurs, such as Israel's ongoing attacks and denial of basic services to the population of Gaza, a population is deprived of any perspective and any voice. We cannot and must not remain silent about this.

As the cultural sector, we are connected to people, stories, and freedom, values that are currently under pressure in many places. We recognize that there are multiple conflicts and forms of injustice in the world, but what is happening now calls for an unambiguous signal.

We call on the Dutch government to do more and to take responsibility for helping to stop this genocide and protect civilians.
