Minimal Music Festival

Over the course of five days, the Muziekgebouw will be dedicated to minimal music in its broadest sense: from pioneers Steve Reich and Philip Glass to today’s makers. As such, the Minimal Music Festival 2023 celebrates the power of repetition. Repetition that never stays the same, that changes itself and brings about change. Hope illuminated in dark times.
The new transformations of minimal music resound in brand new work by composer Maxim Shalygin, drummer Valentina Magaletti and producer Loraine James. And there are unique performances: 100 cymbals by Ryoji Ikeda, a thrilling Egyptian zar ritual, and wondrous soundscapes by guitarist Oren Ambarchi.
In collaboration with our partners Subbacultcha and Garage Noord, we are also offering a free fringe programme, featuring a variety of performances and a festival cafe. The specifics of the fringe programme will be announced later.
