‘On Ghosted, the groove reigns supreme’ (Pitchfork)

The trio Ghosted was named after the eponymous album which featured sound artist Oren Ambarchi improvising with Swedish jazz musicians Johan Berthling and Andreas Werliin. The result lies somewhere between 70s ECM jazz and electronic minimalism. Rooted in the rich tonality and repeating figures of Johan Berthling’s acoustic and sometimes electric bass, these extended jams have been compared in the international press to Can’s krautrock, Glenn Branca’s walls of guitar and the ambient jazz of The Necks.

The sound of the Australian experimental musician Oren Ambarchi can be traced back to guitar and electronics, but it manifests itself in all kinds of ways. On the album Ghosted it can be compared to an organ sometimes, or a violin. Oren Ambarchi has worked with numerous kindred spirits, including John Zorn, Jim O’Rourke, and Keith Rowe. Johan Berthling has played on over a hundred albums and just as . drummer Andreas Werliin he is an important figure in Scandinavian progressive jazz. Both appeared previously in The Rest is Noise with the supergroup Fire! Orchestra.

‘The trio showcases a carefully stripped-down, psych-jazz sound where the groove reigns supreme’ (Pitchfork).
