Two violin legends in a new double concert

The chamber orchestra Kremerata Baltica was founded in 1997 by the renowned Latvian violinist Gidon Kremer. A violin legend known for his tireless passion, Kremer and his orchestra have been instrumental in championing the unique musical culture of the Baltic states. Japanese-American violinist Midori rose to global stardom through her deeply moving interpretations, characterized by a sublime simplicity. To celebrate a double anniversary – Kremer’s 80th birthday and the orchestra’s 30th year – they will perform a brand-new suite for two violins and string orchestra.

Gidon Kremer worked closely with composer Arvo Pärt, the father of the spiritual minimalism that has found such fertile ground in the Baltic states. As a soloist, Kremer has performed frequently with the equally legendary pianist Martha Argerich – a musician every bit as spirited as himself. The new work in which he performs alongside Midori consists of three movements, each written by a different Baltic composer. Before the intermission, Midori also features as the soloist in Haydn’s Violin Concerto in C.
