It hardly matters what Chris Thile plays, really. Some musicians are so captivating with their performance and personality that they sweep you away no matter what. And the music that mandolin virtuoso and bluegrass singer Thile brings tonight is also nothing short of brilliant. He masterfully mixes some of Johann Sebastian Bach’s iconic violin sonatas and partitas with American folk songs and sparkling improvisations. A crazy combination? With Thile, you wouldn’t have it any other way.

Thile made his breakthrough at a young age with the ground-breaking bluegrass trio Nickel Creek and was also co-founder of the Punch Brothers. He has won several Grammy Awards and is a much sought-after guest musician who is at home in all genres. He joined forces with superstar cellist Yo-Yo Ma for The Goat Rodeo Sessions and can also be heard on pianist Brad Mehldau’s recently released CD. In 2013, he impressed with the album Bach: Sonatas and Partitas, vol. 1. The long-awaited Vol. 2 will be released at the end of 2025.
