A family-friendly oratorio with a sixteen-part choir 

Icarus doesn’t do ‘halfway’. He says ‘yes!’ to life and ‘now!’ to adventure, challenges the world and harbours great dreams. But then, he falls for Ariadne. This new oratorio for children – by composer Leonard Evers, director Mart van Berkel, and Cappella Amsterdam – breaks the mould of classical music theatre. It’s a spectacle of fire, freedom and pure imagination.  
 
Drawing inspiration from Marcel Roijaards’ young adult novel Rebel met vleugels (Rebel with wings), this production intertwines the Icarus myth with the tales of Theseus, the Minotaur and Ariadne. A sixteen-part choir forms the heart of the performance, while Icarus follows his own path as a free soloist. The work examines his life through the eyes of others and is a reflection on freedom, human connection and the paths we choose to take.
