Brooklyn ligt aan het begin van de 20e-eeuw onder vuur van projectontwikkelaars die er de hoogste toren ter wereld willen bouwen. Wanneer meestertimmerman Lev wordt gevraagd een carrousel te maken die als pronkstuk bovenop het dak van een wolkenkrabber zal worden geplaatst, staat hij voor een dilemma. Hij raakt verscheurd tussen zijn ambitie en zijn trouw aan de omwonenden.
Brooklyn Babylon is een moderne fabel die zonder woorden wordt verteld. De voorstelling combineert de grimmige animaties en live-painting van schilder en striptekenaar Danijel Zezelj met de spannende, kosmopolitische polyfonie van de 18-koppige bigband Secret Society, geleid door Darcy James Argue – in de V.S. beschouwd als een van de grote jazzbeloftes.

At the dawn of the 20th century, Brooklyn is being targeted by real estate developers with plans to build the world’s highest tower right in the centre of the New York borough. When master carpenter Lev is commissioned to construct a carrousel to crown the skyscraper, he finds himself torn between his ambition and his loyalty to the community.
Brooklyn Babylon is an urban fable which unfolds wordlessly. The performance combines the haunting animations and live painting by graphic and comic artist Danijel Zezelj with the exciting, cosmopolitan polyphony of Secret Society, an 18-piece bigband led by Darcy James Argue – regarded as one of the great North American jazz musicians of the new generation.
