An intimate look behind the scenes with top soprano Katrien Baerts

“God has given you one face, and you make yourself another,” says Hamlet to his beloved Ophelia in Shakespeare’s famous tragedy. Just as Ophelia remained a blank canvas onto which many artists later projected their desires, singers too often lend only their voices to the music of others. In this concert, soprano Katrien Baerts steps out of that shadow. In an intimate blend of her favorite songs, diary excerpts, and poetry by Judith Herzberg, she shares her personal motivations and musical choices, accompanied by an all-female ensemble from Het Muziek (formerly known as Asko|Schönberg).

Katrien Baerts is known for tackling contemporary pieces that are often incredibly difficult to sing. Her powerful, sensual voice, perfect diction, and profound, heartfelt interpretations have earned her widespread recognition. Since her 2010 debut in Rob Zuidam’s Suster Bertken, she has enjoyed international acclaim.

For an optimal audience experience, the creators have chosen an alternative seating arrangement. Please note that the tickets are unassigned, and you can choose your own seat upon arrival.
