Grand late Romanticism by four leading soloists

English pianist Benjamin Grosvenor is the driving force behind a piano quartet comprised of four close friends, each of whom enjoys a flourishing solo career. Among them is world-class cellist Kian Soltani, renowned for his virtuosity. The Times described this stellar ensemble as ‘a five-star display of exhilarating musicianship’. The quartet has performed in prestigious venues such as London’s Wigmore Hall, the Vienna Musikverein, and the Concertgebouw, earning acclaim for their interpretations of Late Romantic repertoire.

At the Muziekgebouw, they are performing the expansive Piano Quartet by Sergei Taneyev, Tchaikovsky’s teacher. The music of this ‘Russian Brahms’, which has the same profound emotion found in the works of his more famous student, remains unfairly underrated. Antonín Dvořák’s Piano Quartet offers beautifully fluid Romanticism, featuring those characteristic Slavic modulations that Dvořák so subtly wove into his musical idiom.
