A disarming story framed by music by Schumann

In this unique performance, writer Joost Oomen explores the nature of beauty together with Pynarello. Oomen recites texts live, based on his novel Het Paradijs van Slapen. In it, he weaves together conversations with his father, a doctor who accompanies people at the end of their lives, into a moving story about friendship, love, and the small moments that make life great. A performance celebrating what makes life beautiful.

Pynarello reflects Oomen’s words in the music of Robert Schumann, a composer who explored the contrast between light and dark like no other. Schumann’s Kinderszenen – memories of a carefree childhood – clash with his final work, written in the shadow of his approaching madness. In his own arrangements for strings and winds, Pynarello sheds new light on this beautiful music.
